It is better to be 10 percent undertrained than 1 percent overtrained when you step to the start line.
Scott Murr, Run Less Run Faster. I need to indoctrinate this marathon wisdom, as I definitely made this error while training for the Vegas RNR 26.2. -

Mangagement Rings
Evidently American culture is backwards, but I enjoy the thought of people jumping to these conclusions that demonstrate exactly how many degrees backward:
Is this some gimmick by the jewelry industry to get you to spend more? Is it some ploy by feminists to brand men with engagement rings, too? Is it something for insecure partners who weren’t satisfied he changed his Facebook status to “engaged” and want to alert the entire world their man is in a relationship?

Runnin’ Fool
If, based on that title, you’re picturing Forrest Gump: good. However, this entry is predicated on the idea that you’re actually interested in how this concept applies to me. I know - that’s some pretty presumptuous thinking.
I don’t fancy myself ‘a runner.’ That seems so nerdy and intense. However my actions directly conflict with that notion: I’ve joined two separate running clubs in the Atlanta area and recently became a subscriber to Runner’s World magazine. The only way I could further affirm the idea is by attaching a ‘13.1’ or ‘26.2’ sticker to my back windshield. That’s a little too forward for me, being that I’m not acquainted with most of the other drivers I encounter on the road.
At any rate, this ‘non-runner’ without stickers to support the four half marathons she’s completed and soon-to-be two full marathons has really decided to focus her ambitions for 2012. It’s not even December yet and I’ve got a wish list of races for 2012. Granted, I can’t do all of these because there would be strange training overlaps and even event double-bookings, but here’s what I’m fantasizing for 2012 (fact - I’ll only do two of the four marathons listed):
- 3/3 - Run For Your Lives Zombie Run
- 3/3 - Chattahoochee Road Runners 10k
- 3/18 - Publix Georgia Half Marathon
- 3/31 - Charleston Bridge Run 10k
- 4/29 - Big Sur Marathon
- 6/3 - San Diego Marathon
- 6/23 - Seattle Marathon
- 10/7 - Chicago Marathon
